Rug Company Odabashian Brings Artwork to Your Floor

A good rug is hard to find. I should know. I’ve had a friend mail me two authentic rugs from Afghanistan because I’m picky. I regret not buyingTire Rug a rug on a recent trip to Delhi, India, but perhaps I’ve found an answer.

Odabashian is one of the oldest hand-made rug companies in the Americas. The company is an ideal example of strong work, perseverance and talent. First launched in Mexico City, the company is 93 years old and is a family-owned business. Jaime Odabachian, the founder’s grandson, serves as the company’s co-owner and president.

To clear up any confusion, the original company name and surname is Odabachian. For pronunciation purposes, the company name was changed to Odabashian in 1979 when it launched in the States.

Odabachian joined his family company in 2008. Prior he launched the U.S.-based subsidiary of a Fort Lauderdale marine energy services in Mexico and has a degree in industrial engineering from the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico City.

As an advocate for the arts, Odabachian is the chair of The Wolfsonian-FIU Museum Visionaries in Miami.

A key reason to the company’s growing success is the quality of the rug. Every rug is custom-designed and hand-woven by skilled craftsmen in India. (Now I know I really missed out while in India!) They also have killer customer service. Jaime Odabachian, himself, is stationed at the new workspace in Miami’s Design District to work with clients in customizing their rug. He offers knowledge in selecting designs, color schemes, and choosing materials. The workspace is by appointment only.

“We offer clients the personalized customer experience they need to produce a truly unique, bespoke product that reflects their home, or their brand Rosewood San Miguel de Allende Hotelperfectly,” adds Odabachian.

It’s also not too late to purchase a rug from the recent collaboration between Odabashion and Joe Doucet, New York artist, designer and inventor of ALIGN, a limited edition, Tibetan-knotted rug specifically created for New York’s WantedDesign 2013. The ALIGN rugs measure 5” x 8” feet and contains more 1 million Tibetan single knots, approximately 15-18 knots per square centimeters. The wool in ALIGN is made out of a specific breed of sheep found in the North Island of New Zealand.

By the way, Odabashian rugs are everywhere. You’ll be aligning your home with other gorgeous properties throughout the world from Banyan Tree Hotels & Resorts to the Aman properties and more. View their website at www.odabashian.com.
